The top pick on our list of Can't Miss Restaurants in Mallorca, Spain is Restaurante Miró in Deia. Situated within La Residencia, a Belmond Hotel in Deia, this restaurant surpassed all expectations. Reservations are essential for dining at Miró, located next to the renowned El Olivio. When comparing the menus of the two establishments, we opted for Restaurante Miró over El Olivio, which offers tasting menus with 6 or 12 courses. Restaurante Miró enforces a minimum spending requirement of 75 euros per person, along with a cancellation policy requiring the same amount for cancellations within 24 hours of the reservation. Despite the price tag, the overall dining experience justifies the cost.
When arriving on the La Residencia property, we were met at the entrance gates surrounded by lemon trees and lavender. A staff member was there to greet us and point us in the direction of Restaurante Miró, also ensuring that we were on property due to a reservation. We witnessed multiple parties be turned away due to not having one— so be sure to book in advance!
When we arrived on the patio that serves as the entrance to both Cafe Miró, a quaint area with drinks, and Restaurante Miró. Live jazz music was playing in the background, and they play daily from 7:30-10:30 pm. We could even hear them in the evenings at our hotel across the street, and it added to the magical feel encompasses you every moment in Deia.
Once seated, I was offered a blanket to fend against the cool air as the sun was starting to set. The attention to detail was apparent within every staff member, and they took time to know us as they rotated through tables. Our favorite waitress, Fernanda, even came by to say goodnight as she was leaving her shift, and mentioned how much she loved meeting us.
We started with the selection of homemade breads, Mallorcan olive oil, and local appetizers. We were blown away by the ingredients and that the spices in the bread had come from gardens on the grounds of La Residencia. It was a large portion and we loved it so much that we could have ordered more. We also ordered Grilled Green Asparagus with a sauce made from local Sóller oranges.
For main courses, I ordered the Rigatoni with Green Basil Pesto and crunchy Mahón cheese. The Mahón cheese is a bold white cow’s milk cheese local to the island. I even found out that it can taste salty due to the sea salt that the cows consume in the local grass. My husband ordered a seasonal special and he loved it, too.
While we loved our main courses, our dessert was one of the best we’ve ever had. This was our first introduction to Homemade Mallorcan “Gato.” It was served with almond ice cream, and is an almond flavored sponge cake. It was light and fluffy with lemon and cinnamon notes, and after ordering it here, I ordered it at least five more times while on the island. We also ordered the creamy cheesecake with fig jam. I have never tasted cheesecake as perfect as this. It is how I wish cheesecake in the United States could be. I will be dreaming of it until the day I return.
After we were done eating, the staff brought candied pecans and gummies, along with shots of Limoncello. We were not sure if this is standard, but it was so kind and wrapped up the perfect evening. As the saxophone was doing a solo and the sun was finishing its descent over the hill, we savored every moment on this incredible property. It is a bucket list item for us to return someday and stay at the La Residencia. We will always treasure our first experience here, and recommend Restaurante Miró to all visiting Deia, Mallorca.
